Warning: You have to repay your loans. Don't pay any intermediaries.

We are small, and we
would rather you knew
what that means

First Choice Credit Limited is a money lender in Yau Yat Chuen. We are a very small operation — no branch network, no call centre, no advertising budget. Everything below is written as a conversation, because that is how this business is actually conducted here.

The section in the middle is the one worth your time. It explains what happens to your name, your phone number and your income details the moment you type them into a loan comparison website — and why the calls start before you have decided anything.

The conversation we have
most often

Reproduced roughly as it goes, minus the small talk.

You ask
I filled in one form on a comparison site and now six companies are calling me. How?
We answer
Because on many of those sites, the form is the product. You believed you were requesting a quotation; what you actually did was generate a sales lead, and that lead can be passed to several lenders and brokers at once. Read who the form says it shares your details with before you submit it — the answer is usually there, in the part nobody opens.
You ask
Are those sites lying about the rates then?
We answer
Not necessarily, and some are perfectly useful. But understand the economics: a site that is paid for introductions has a reason to rank the lender who pays most for introductions. "First choice" on a comparison table means first in that table, not best for you. Our own name should be read with exactly the same scepticism.
You ask
Someone rang and said they could get me approved anywhere for a small fee.
We answer
End the call. Every money lender's advertisement in Hong Kong carries the same warning about intermediaries, and it is there because this is the most common way borrowers here lose money. No fee is payable to anybody before a loan is advanced — not to us, not to an agent, not to anyone. If you have already paid, report it to the police and do not pay again to recover it.
You ask
Does applying to lots of lenders improve my chances?
We answer
It does the opposite. Credit reference data shows lenders your recent enquiries, and a cluster of applications in a short window reads as distress. Get your own credit report first, then apply to one or two lenders deliberately. That is a stronger position than shotgunning fifteen forms across an afternoon.
You ask
Why should I deal with a company this small?
We answer
Sometimes you should not. If a bank will lend you what you need on a timetable that works, take the bank — it will be cheaper and we will tell you so. What a small lender offers is that the person assessing your file is the person you spoke to, and will still be the person you speak to in month fourteen. What it cannot offer is a lower rate than a bank.

Five things to do before you fill in any form

Ours included. None of these takes more than a few minutes and all of them put you in a better position than the person who typed their details in first and thought about it afterwards.

What we actually lend

i

Personal instalment loans

A fixed sum over a fixed term with a written schedule and a final payment date you know on day one.

ii

Small business loans

For owner-operated businesses, sized against what the trade services in a quiet month rather than a busy one.

iii

Consolidation, on one condition

Only where the total cost genuinely falls and the previous accounts actually close. Otherwise it is not consolidation, it is an additional loan with a friendlier name.

iv

What we decline

Applications where the money is going to another lender's instalment, and anything reaching us through a person expecting a fee from the borrower.

No rates are published here. Any figure would be wrong for nearly everyone reading it, and a headline rate on a website is advertising rather than information. What you will get instead is the effective annual rate, the total repayable and the complete schedule, in writing, before you sign anything.

Contact us directly

By phone or email. We appoint nobody to approach you, and anyone claiming to arrange a loan from us for a fee is not connected with this company.
